but, What is Acupuncture?...

Acupuncture is a safe, effective and natural treatment involving the insertion of very thin needles through your skin at strategic points on your body. It is one key component of traditional Chinese medicine, which is a holistic medical healing system including (but not limited to) moxibustion, cupping, Gua Sha, and use of herbs. It was devised before 2500 BCE in China and by the late 20th century was used in many other areas of the world.

Traditional Chinese medicine explains acupuncture as a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force — known as chi or qi (chee) — believed to flow through pathways (meridians) in your body. By inserting thin, single use, sterile needles into specific points along these meridians, acupuncture practitioners believe that your energy flow will re-balance. Acupuncture is based in the theory that health may be restored when the imbalances of the body are brought back into harmonious balance.

In contrast, many Western practitioners view the acupuncture points as places to stimulate nerves, muscles and connective tissue. Some believe that this stimulation boosts your body's natural painkillers and alleviates pain by blocking pain receptors.
